The Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (Balai Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani) has announced new regulations for individual climbers (solo hikers) starting from 2025. Solo climbers will now be required to be accompanied by an official guide when ascending Mount Rinjani.
This policy aims to enhance climbers’ safety and preserve the natural environment within the national park area.
Mandatory Guide for Solo Hikers
Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office, Dedy Asriady, stated that this new regulation applies specifically to individual climbers. According to him, those who wish to hike Mount Rinjani alone must register through the official e-Rinjani system and are obligated to be accompanied by a certified guide.
“Solo hikers are no longer permitted to climb alone for safety reasons. A guide is mandatory,” he said on Monday (April 8, 2025).
Efforts to Improve Safety and Conservation
This policy also serves as an effort to reduce the number of accidents and ensure the conservation of Rinjani’s ecosystem. In past cases, solo climbers were often at higher risk of getting lost or experiencing health issues, with limited ability to call for help.
The presence of a guide is expected to minimize these risks and assist in maintaining the hiking trail and cleanliness.
E-Rinjani System and Access Quotas
Registration for climbing Mount Rinjani is done through the official e-Rinjani application. Each climbing route has a daily visitor quota, and climbers must register in advance.
In 2024, the climbing season for Mount Rinjani is officially open from April 1, with access available through the Sembalun, Senaru, Torean, Aik Berik, and Timbanuh routes.
